Country: Australia, Mint: Perth Mint, Weight: 1/2 oz , Purity: 0.999% Ag Fine Silver
Product Details
The Silver Kookaburra coin series is one of the most sought after by collectors around the world for its yearly changing designs that honor the unique Australian kookaburra. All coins are made of .999 fine Silver, adding bullion value on top of the collector appeal. The 2003 half ounce silver proof Australian Kookaburra coin featuring a new design depicting two kookaburras, one on a tree and one in full flight. The 2003 1/2oz square Kookaburra follows the successful release of the 2002 square shaped coin which was well received by coin collectors.Struck by The Perth Mint this 2003 Kookaburra is the second 50c in the series of square 1/2 oz silver Kookaburras. The design inspiration is derived from Australia’s early square kookaburra pattern pennies which were to replace bulky bronze pennies and halfpennies. Although a number of these were struck in 1919-21, each with a Kookaburra reverse, none were officially circulated. This is the second legal tender square shaped coin to be issued in Australia by the Perth Mint.
